Zips can be rescued for reuse from clothing destined to become rags, so that they can be used to replace broken or faulty zips on other items. Zips can also be repaired if the runner has come off one of the sides of the zip: Pull the runner to the bottom of the zip. Cut into the zip tape between two teeth about 6mm (1/4 inch) above the runner on the broken side. Work with the teeth above the cut into the runner. Pull the runner up over the cut and oversew across the zip to create a new zip bottom.
