Trees

There are a range of uses of unwanted trees. If freshly dug with roots intact, perhaps a friend or neighbour would be grateful for your tree. Some larger trees can be used for wood turning (check Yellow Pages for contacts). It is also possible to shred trees. If you don't have a shredder investigate borrowing or hiring. The resultant material can be used as a mulch. Look out for Christmas tree shredding schemes in the New Year. Green waste can be taken to the Highland Council Civic Amenity Sites for composting.

Wood

Doors, fencing etc. in good condition may be sold on through advertising in local shops or press. You may be able to donate off-cuts and good quality second hand timber to community groups for projects. Check 'Where to recycle' - (right hand block) for where wood can be recycled near you. Do not burn chipboard or similar in an open fire, as the glue used in the manufacture can give off toxic fumes.
