Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish or bulky items on land not licensed to receive it. If you see anyone depositing large amounts of waste or if you discover an area in need of clearing up, you can report it to Dumb Dumpers (tel: 0845 2304090) or contact your local council office. It is a crime to fly tip, with fines ranging from fixed penalties of £50 to £40,000 .
It cost £2.25 million per year to keep the Highland’s streets clean in 2002. There are over 2700 litterbins throughout the Highlands. Most household items can be collected for disposal by the Highland Council.
