Alness Green and Easy Food Fair
Come along to a free event to celebrate local produce and find out about eating an environmentally friendly diet and growing your own fruit and vegetables. See our Green & Easy Newsletter.
RoWAN is organising this event jointly with the Alness Transition Town Group and Alness and District Allotments Society. Please could you spread the word. There will be a wide range of food and growing-related stalls and fun activities for both adults and children to show the easy steps that can be taken to grow or buy locally and to cook at home. A range of local food producers (Easter Ross Organics (Ardross), Reid's Highland Fare (Evanton) and Aquascot) will also be along with their wares, including organic vegetables, eggs, baking and salmon products.
There will be cooking demonstrations throughout the afternoon, including a quick and easy pizza and a “Ready Steady Cook” session.
Members of the Alness & District Allotment Society will be showing off some of their produce and examples of how to grow vegetables in containers, demonstrating that very little space is needed to grow some of your own food.
The Alness Transition Town Group will be showing how to follow an environmentally-friendly diet, whilst gathering opinions on plans for transforming Alness into a low-carbon community.
There will be experts on hand to give tips on storing and cooking food, and also dealing with Autumn fruit gluts. If people have surplus fruit and vegetables, for example cooking apples, it would be great if they could bring them along to share.
Composting advisors will also be there to give advice on composters, wormeries and food waste digestors. There will be refreshments and a free raffle.
