Community News and Events: Highland

Jazz up your garden with some funky flowers!

If you have visited a Master Composter event recently, you may have noticed the lovely plastic bottle flowers that volunteers have made.  Particularly eyecatching and effective in a garden, if you would like to make your own, see the attachment below.

Master Composters are available to set up displays, hold workshops or do walkabouts at community events or galas.  Please do give Katy a bell on 01349 867063 or master.composter@rowan.org.uk if you would like us to come along!

Let's Talk Rubbish

RoWAN are hosting a talk entitled “Archaeology is Rubbish” by local archaeologist Susan Kruse. Susan will be giving us food for thought with a talk entitled "Archaeology is Rubbish". She will explore the way people have treated rubbish through the ages, from the earliest Mesolithic times through to today. From this perspective she will suggest that there may be valuable lessons from the past, as well as sobering reflections on what archaeologists of the future may think about us today. Read more

......And Good News On Electrical Equipment Recycling

A wide range of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)  can now be taken to the Highland Council recycling centres in Dingwall, Alness, and Inverness. For more information click here.

Keep an eye out for RoWAN and enter a free prize draw!

Fancy taking part in a treasure hunt with a difference?  We have come up with a fun way to raise awareness of the Master Composter project, which promotes home composting across Ross and Cromarty and Inverness City.  If you spot one of our funky bright new car stickers across the region, text the car number plate (or a photo!) to 07899 897419 and you will be entered into a free prize draw for composting and waste reduction equipment.  The competition runs until Easter, so you have plenty of time to find one of our stickers!  To find out where our Master Composter volunteers are based, click here.

The Co-operative Members' Meeting

RoWAN staff will be staffing a great display at this event, as well as delivering a fantastic presentation on different aspects of our work.  If you would like more information about our campaigns, would like to find out about volunteering with us, or if you have a recycling or composting query, come along and have a chat!

RoWAN @ the Black Isle Show

Good to see so many visiting RoWAN's stall at the Black Isle Show where  people got composting advice, signed up to our Food Waste diary and took away information to help them recycle more and reduce their food waste. The Highland Real Nappy Campaign  was also on hand to promote and offer advice about using real nappies instead of disposables.

As ever Waste Warrior was very popular with both children and grown ups and the Rowan summer prize draw for Ross-shire residents, to be drawn on 1st September,  was  well subscribed to. Want to add your name to this prize draw?  Visit us at one of our events posted on this site. Read more
