Carpets

Carpets in good condition may be sold at auction or through ads in the local press, or may be donated to charity shops. Bylthswood at Evanton accepts carpets.

Ideas to extend the life of your old carpets:

  • Can be laid as insulation in lofts
  • Can be used in gardens as a mulch to reclaim reverted areas by being laid over the ground to starve plants of light. After a period of at least 6 weeks the carpet can be removed and the roots of the weeds are easier to remove. (Can be left on for as long as a year, making ground preparation less labour intensive). This is not recommended where there is a suspected presence of New Zealand flatworm (as they breed under damp old carpet) or severe couch grass infestation.
  • Can be used instead of sand beneath a butyl pond liner to protect it from sharp stones.
