Swopping Waste Makes Business Sense
Press release 11/2/09
Businesses in Dingwall have a chance to join a free local waste exchange scheme.
MacDonald’s Hardware in Dingwall has been regularly supplying left over cardboard boxes to Tain Pottery over the years. Robert Hudson of Tain pottery said, ‘I’ve been reusing cardboard boxes for over 12 years and this has saved me both money and storage space and means the boxes are well used before being recycled.’
RoWAN put Kelvin Ambrose of MacDonald’s Hardware in touch with Dingwall campus of Inverness College who are keen to use the shop’s left over paint and wall paper. Inverness College head of school, Angus MacLeod said, ‘We’re always very pleased to receive materials such as this paint to help young people learn real skills at this Learn Direct centre. I think the work that RoWAN is doing in Dingwall is really excellent in helping to reduce landfill waste in such a practical and useful way. This waste exchange scheme can benefit businesses in terms of savings, improving their competitive edge, and also enhance their image with both customers and investors.’
RoWAN is currently surveying local businesses and putting potential exchangers in touch with each other on an individual basis. We hope that, by setting up this exchange network and providing free information and advice on waste reduction options, we can help businesses reuse and recycle more.
