LUSH improves their 3 R's with RoWAN
Thanks to one of our hardworking volunteers, Marianne, LUSH got in touch with Kate to find out ways they could cut down on the amount of waste they were sending to landfill.
LUSH is an Inverness High Street store and Lucy, manager and Freya, green helper, have been keen to get their rubbish sorted! They quickly identified items that could be recycled and others that were in need of a new home for another chance to be reused. For example, Lush has black plastic containers that would make ideal window box planters. They also have pails, plastic boxes, old window signs in a rainbow of colours and some discontinued cardboard gift boxes.
Carol and Kate were visiting Charleston Academy for an eco-meeting and popped into the Arches programme for a quick chat and tour from Yvonne. The staff and students involved with the Arches programme are excellent role models for anyone looking to do all that they can to reduce, reuse and recyle! After the tour, Carol and Kate agreed that this could be an ideal partnership for LUSH as Yvonne and the students are well versed in creatively reusing things.
This was what Lucy and Freya were hoping for as finding these items a new home, which kept them out of landfill and put them to good use was their goal.
On top of the items to be reused, RoWAN also helped LUSH to organise recycling collection for their cardboard, paper, plastic and tins. RoWAN has also donated bokashi compost bins for LUSH to trial so they can compost plants, fruit and veg they use for their displays, as well as their tea bags and coffee grinds.
All of this adds up to a good amount of stuff that could have been mistaken as "rubbish" instead of the treasure it can now be turned into!
A successful story about how LUSH has reduced, reused and recycled with the help of RoWAN!
