Invergordon Starts to Slim Bins

Karen MacKay, a resident of Saltburn, commented “I never used to care about how much I threw away and my bin was overflowing. With the discussions on the incinerator I realised that I could not be part of the campaign with a clear conscience without doing something about my own rubbish. I have two children and I work- if I can do it, so can most other people. It really does not take much effort to reduce what’s in my bin- and the kids and I are having great fun! ”

Karen attended an advice session given by RoWAN that gave information on easy ways to reduce household waste. Within a few weeks of starting to recycle more and think more about what she is buying, she was able to reduce her bin from overflowing to being now only around a quarter full on collection day.

The group is working with RoWAN to come up with an action plan and would welcome ideas and support from all members of the community. Immediate plans are to encourage as many people as possible to pledge to “Slim your bin”. 10 more householders have already signed up! Click here to slim your bin.
